I would like to suggest a rating system that reflects not only how good the movie is, but takes into consideration how true it stays to the book it is based on.

If we award points:

add:

1 pt for staying true to text
1 pt for staying true to story
1 pt for good casting/acting
1 pt for good art/effects
1 pt for good direction
1 pt for good writing

Subtract 1 point if those areas are not good.
ie... bad acting - 1 pt, etc...

Add to that the "Overall Effect" Will we watch it again? Will we recommend it to others?

If we would watch it at least once or twice in a year, it would get an "OE" rating of B

I f I would watch it more than twice in a year, I would give it an OE of A. (which is better)

A best rating then, would be a 6A followed by a 6B. (Sometimes a movie can be a great movie and we still find due to effects of movie or strong reaction to it, still only watch it once a year.)

Then the ratings scale down.

So, for example, using this system to rate The movie "The Mist" ( which I discussed elsewhere) I would give it :

1 point each for all the areas except 'casting/acting" so that's 5 points.

I would take 1 point away because the "staying true to text" goes out the window at the end..

So there are now 4 points.

I would definitely watch it again, but not likely more than once or twice annually, probably around Halloween.so I would give it an OE of B.

My overall rating of "The Mist" would be a 4B.

If anyone would like to help "flesh" this rating system out, please discuss it in this thread only.
