I grew up with English language SciFi and Fantasy and actually fell in love with "the Hobbit"at a very early age (some 200 years ago I guess).
I attempted The Lord of the Rings a few years later and couldn't get through it until I gave in and tried the translated version. The Silmarillion and Tom Bombadil came later.
Nowadays my interest is broader, with historic romans, techno-thrillers (think CSI but in a book), cultural stories about exotic countries. I still dearly love fantasy and I read my kids' books with at least as much fun as they do. Harry Potter, witches and broomsticks, The Time Traveller etc.
