Another all time classic. Fascinating from a military point of view - I'm ex-army, and for the view of the future society it presents. You don't have to agree with everything in that future to find it a great read.
The movie was a cartoonish joke. Yes the visual effects were spectacular, as was Denise Richards, but it strayed too far from the book. No suits?! What's the point then? They were just another gaggle of troops running around with M16 looking rifles. The suits defined the power, training, and capabilities of the MI.
And a coed MI? Please, the all male aspect of the MI in the book, as well as the all female aspect of ships pilots were part of what made that future society what it was. I'm no chauvanist, I've soldiered next to females a lot in my day. But we are talking about a movie adaption of a classic book, don't change basic things out of political correctness!!!!! |
