Death Gate Cycle is a series of 7 books co-written by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

This is one of my favorite book series in the sub genre of magic and dragons, elves and warriors, etc

I am a byproduct to a degree I suppose, of the Dungeons and Dragons era and this explores that notion fantastically.

If you like that type of Fantasy, I think you will be very pleased with this series.
