This is one of my favorite books in working with Linux. it is a book designed to guide folks along to certification such as LPI. This book was published in 2007 and has an ISBN-13: 978-0-470-08348-2. It is most often found online or in specialty/tech book stores.
All of the instruction is presented for console, command line entry. As again, the LPI and other Linux certifications focus on administration via command line.
The book is broken into chapters broken down into tasks focusing on accomplishing certain functions. For example, Chapter One focuses on command line basics and scripting. It is broken into 9 tasks further divided into 4 working processes :
Scenario, a "real" world implementation or need of that particular command or task.
Scope of Task, what the task will entail and how it will affect your install.
Procedure, this is the actual step by step implementation.
Criteria for completion, this is the summarization of what was done and what results the user should have come up with.
If someone is just getting into Linux administration or just looking for a good reference to help them become familiar with command line operation and concept of how the apps and servers work, this is a very handy book I often recommend to new and experienced users alike.
It is not an "advanced book and basically prepares one to be a "Level One" tech or level of capability. It does not go into in depth trouble shooting of the servers and apps it discusses. Again, it's goal is to make one familiar with the typical tasks and functions of Linux server/OS administration.
